Welcome back to school! It is truly humbling to get a chance to work with the amazing students and staff we have this year at Valley View School. Our students have come to school eager to learn, make new friends and open to new routines now that we have doubled in size with our new Science Program.
We have been working hard with Transportation, our Science Program teachers and students to ensure that the bussing process goes smoothly. So far we have had very few glitches. We had a school wide assembly on Friday where the students were introduced to the staff, some playground rules and our school purpose statement. The students assembly behaviour was amazing. Below I have attached our school purpose statement. There is so much excitement about the learning possibilities this year. I can not wait to visit our classrooms to see the possibilities as students learn and strive for excellence. Important news for our Science School students for next year concerning transportation the pre-registration has been extended until June 11, 2017. Please click the link below for more information.
So many things happening at Valley View this month. Please check the calendar below for all of the exciting events. Its funny a lot of people ask if in June we are starting to wind down, I laugh a bit to myself and as you can see in June we are doing the opposite of winding down. At Valley View we finish strong. Below is some important information about next year's bell times.
For our Science School program it is important to note that bus Pre-registration started May 23rd. The transportation pre-registration period will began on Tuesday, May 23 and will close on Monday, June 5.
You can pre-register using My CBE Account. To be included in the yellow school bus route planning for 2016-17, parents must pre-register by June 5. Registrations received after that date will not be considered until mid October. The more registration received before the deadline, the more efficient route planning will be for the beginning of the new school year. For more information see the links below in my blog titled "Bus and Bells". What an amazing week. It was my absolute pleasure to join our Grade Five students and their teachers for four action packed days at YMCA's Outdoor School at Camp Chief Hector in Kananaskis. The Sunship Earth program challenged our students to look at our planet and understand the diversity, energy, interrelationships, cycles, ecosystems and communities. Students then began building their understanding of how they impact our planet with their actions. The staff at Outdoor school lead our students on a number of interpretive hikes, and engaged students in activities within the amazingly diverse and rich ecosystems of Kananaskis. Wow, what a classroom Kananaskis is. Not only did students learn about the Science of our local ecosystems and environmental stewardship, but they also focused on the core values of the YMCA honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. Students built independence and social skills with the support of the counsellors. They needed to work together to set and clean at meal times and became more independent in preparing themselves and their day packs for the variety of weather that came our way. The students flourished in this environment. This program could not have been possible for our students without the support of our School Council's Super Kids for helping with the cost. Also Ms. Jaylene Smith was instrumental in the organization of this amazing opportunity. Some very important information concerning bussing and school start and end times for Valley View families and Valley View Science Program families for the 2017-2018 school year is available on our Twitter and website.
